CO2 Laser Resurfacing: treatment detail

What is it?

What is CO2 Fractional?

Fractional CO2 laser resurfaces the skin in controlled microscopic columns, leaving the tissue between them untouched so healing is faster than full ablation.

Fractional CO₂ is a premium resurfacing option for texture, fine lines, sun damage and mild scarring. It is not an entry-level facial and is distinct from fully ablative CO₂.

How does it work?

How does it work?

The laser removes microscopic columns of skin, leaving surrounding tissue intact. That untouched tissue drives faster healing than full ablative resurfacing, while still triggering major collagen renewal.

Deeper skin tones carry a higher pigmentation risk with this treatment. We assess this honestly at consultation and will recommend a non-ablative route where that's the safer choice.

This is positioned as a premium, results-driven treatment, not an entry-level facial. It may be more appropriate than microneedling for sun damage and deeper texture goals.

Fully ablative CO₂ is a separate, more intensive resurfacing treatment for deep wrinkles and pronounced texture goals. It can cause significant redness, swelling and weeping for several days. Healing usually takes 1 to 2 weeks before makeup can be worn, with results continuing to develop over 2 to 3 months. This requires a separate specialist assessment and safety approval.

Your appointment

What happens during your appointment

  1. Consultation

Your skin tone and goals are assessed honestly, including pigmentation risk for deeper skin tones.
  2. Patch Test

A patch test is completed and the laser activation gate confirmed before booking.
  3. Treatment

The laser delivers controlled microscopic columns of resurfacing across the treatment area.
  4. Aftercare & Review

Detailed aftercare is issued, downtime is planned around your schedule, and a review appointment is booked.

Afterwards

What to expect afterwards

Redness and a sunburn-like sensation for 3 to 5 days is normal; light peeling or flaking can continue for up to a week. Plan this around your schedule. It's not a lunchtime treatment.

Skin typically looks noticeably smoother and brighter within 2 to 3 weeks, with continued collagen-driven improvement over the following months.

Before you book

Your safety

Fractional resurfacing is not suitable over active acne, cold sores or infection in the treatment area.

Device suitability, insurance, aftercare and emergency arrangements must be confirmed before treatment.

Fully ablative CO₂ is a separate advanced service requiring specialist training, insurance and safety approval.
